Roger G3LDI - Looking for Information

Is there a local amateur living in Sprowston who is out and about and would be willing to help me with some information please?

I send my Swardeston Mardle each Christmas to Hazel Kerrison, the XYL of Sid G3MFQ (SK). She always responds with a Christmas card and a few comments on the latest edition. This year there was no card, no phone call and after trying to phone her I have found the number is not being recognised.

She lived at 32 Tiercel Avenue, Sprowson. I cannot think of any other way of trying to find out how she is, so if somebody could call at that address to see if the present occupant knows any contact details for Hazel I would be grateful.

The exact same scenario applies to Daphne Brennan, XYL of Bill G3CQE, my main technical mentor and Elmer. However, Daphne lived in Somerset so not easy to trace. If anybody has any ideas, I am open to suggestions!

Many thanks, 73 de Roger, G3LDI   (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)

Construction Special round-up from NARC Live!

The Wednesday before last was NARC LIve! Construction Special and featured lots of members projects, an introduction to modern components, Soldering hints and tips and a review of a £11.99 temperature controlled soldering iron station.

You can watch a recording of the show by going to the clubs Facebook page and clicking on last weeks show:

www.norfolkamateurradio.org/norfolkamateurradioclub

Several people expressed interest in various tools and kits featured.

The Temperature Controlled Soldering Station we reviewed was from CPC currently on special offer at £9.99 +vat (£11.99).

www.cpc.co.uk

Part number for the Main Station is SD0169607 £9.99 +vat

4 Different size tips are available:  SD01769, SD01770, SD01771, SD01772

If you spend £17.50 +VAT or more its free delivery and CPC sell lots of different things.

We felt it was excellent value and coming from a Farnell company should be reasonably reliable.

John 2E0TWQ sends us this from someone reviewing a low cost battery operated soldering iron: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7b9RahibFqA

And the iron can be bought here:  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8W-Battery-Powered-Soldering-Iron-with-Solder-Cordless-Portable/352355071933?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

Note this was not quite the same battery operated iron which Steve showed which was made by Antex:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324180014208

There are many small electronic kits available on eBay etc which are ideal to get started. The small dice kit which Tammy made during the show was similar to this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283920591303

Note you will also need a 4.5 volt battery pack (made by 3 x AA batteries for example)

Also John 2E0TWQ sent us details of this rotating sphere from Bangood:

https://uk.banggood.com/Geekcreit-DIY-Spherical-Rotating-LED-Kit-POV-Soldering-Training-Kit-p-1050086.html?rmmds=myorder&ID=229&cur_warehouse=UK

Note this was not quite the same one as M0TC made which had 2 curved light bars; I have looked up my order from last November and the exact one which Tammy made was:

https://www.banggood.com/Geekcreit-DIY-Biaxial-Spherical-Rotating-DIY-LED-Flash-Kit-Creative-POV-Soldering-Training-Kit-p-1148793.html?akmClientCountry=GB&utm_design=131&utm_email=1574825802_2324_08&utm_source=emarsys&utm_medium=Shipoutinform190813&utm_campaign=trigger-logistics&utm_content=Gakki&sc_src=email_2671705&sc_eh=f1cf892bdbe820131&sc_llid=17732292&sc_lid=104858042&sc_uid=HXIpJSGjWj&cur_warehouse=UK

Please note that these are not suggested as beginners kits. Both use small surface mount components and so a small iron tip and non magnetic tweezers are recommended.

Best Wishes from NARC....

We have created a special card from Norfolk Amateur Radio club featuring pictures of club events and people.
If you know anyone who is unwell or just feeling fed up in these strange times and would be cheered by receiving one of these cards from the club (amateur or not), drop David & Tammy a line with the recipients address and we will be pleased to send one.
